Architect's Drawing of the original
St Thomas' in 1970

HISTORY

St. Thomas’ Uniting Church began its life as "St. Thomas’ Church Centre" in 1970.   Although in those early days we were part of the Broadmeadows Methodist Circuit, we were the only Protestant church in Craigieburn.  As such, we intentionally opened our doors to people belonging to all Protestant denominations.

Today, despite some of the other denominations having established themselves separately in the area, we still celebrate a diversity of denominations whilst having added a mix of cultures (15 nationalities!) and having continued our all ages (0 to 90+) focus.  We do our utmost  to reflect this diversity and mixture in our worship and life together.

The unique set up of our building stems from the fact that from 1970 to the early 1980s, our ministers and their families lived at what is now considered to be the 'back' of the church.  What are now the Sunday School and meeting rooms were originally bedrooms, with the largest meeting room being the original Worship space.  The current Worship Centre and foyer were added on to the original building in 1987.

VISION

The St Thomas' congregation is committed to being an inclusive community of faith, growing in our commitment to Christ as we

Faithfully live the Living Faith

together

We envision a time when all members can recognise, develop and share their own ministry, and celebrate the rich diversity of life experience that we all bring to the life of our church

MISSION

The Mission of the St  Thomas' congregation is to

Faithfully live the Living Faith

We will achieve this by

Being nourished by the Word through meaningful, inclusive Worship

Nurturing one another in our growth in faith and participation in the
Ministry of All Believers

Facilitating ways through which we can appreciate and celebrate our rich diversity more fully

Enabling mission opportunities as we become more open to new ways of 'being church'

Enhancing our commitment to wise and faithful stewardship of
ALL our resources

PASTORAL CARE

Caring for the flock, every last sheep that is, was one of the models Christ gave us.  The leaders of each of the groups within the church has been given the responsibility of providing and/or noting pastoral care issues of the members of their groups.  Where there is a need  beyond the leader's capability, they can contact our church secretary to arrange a visit from a member of our 'Crisis Team'.
